Vintage Czech Puppet Theater and Marionettes, JAS Czechoslovakia String Puppets and Stage, 1970s Children's Toys Prague, Scene Marionettes, Milos Kasal Puppets Maker, Puppets Theater Czech puppet theater with 4 detail illustrated sets by Karel Franta, and 4 painted gypsum and cloth marionettes on wires. Includes a king, a princess, little boy, and girl. The whole set packs away inside the stage. Box / stage measures 23" x 14.5" x 2" in size. When set up, the theater measures about 15" tall. Each puppet (not including wire/string) is about 5" tall. Includes; 2 Large back scenes double sided 8 Small side scenes panels double sided 2 Theater front panels double sided 1 Theater front topper with pink curtain 6 Wood dowel baguettes to hold the scene panels What an extraordinary find, with lots of lovable elements, and some wear from age and use over the last 40 years. The stage is a box made of pressboard - one side green, one side plain brown - with black wood edges; one edge opens up with little latches. The thick cardstock backed set pieces are double sided ... the pieces fit into lightweight pine wood pieces, which in turn sit in holes in the stage. The front part (two sides and top) holds a pink curtain that can be raised and lowered. The puppets are made of poly knit cloth, some wood, plus painted gypsum/plaster heads and hands. They are attached to top wires to walk them around, and their arms are attached to strings so they can gesture simply with their hands. Flaws and wear on this piece include: some edges coming apart on the box stage, originally held together with little nails, but could be glued if you care to do it; overall light wear plus a few less obvious creases on the beautifully illustrated sets; the curtain raises and lowers by pulling strings and then wrapping them around nails. The puppet strings are decades old but work well, you may decide to change at some time, this would be an easy fix. As well, I find that the stage goes together best if the base is sitting up on something ... this way the pine pieces can go through the holes on the top and the bottom, which makes the sets more stable.
